Past Tenses

Complete the story with the vrbes in correct tense (Past Simple , Past Continuous ,Past Perfect)

Last week , police en Germany _________(go) to a man's house to arrest him . They _________(recive) an anonymous phone call the night before.Apparently , the man _________(steal) several cars in the city. However , while the police ________(go) in through the front door of the suspect's house , he ___________(escape) out of the back door and_________(run) into a neighbour's garden.Unfortunately for him , he ___________(leave) his dog , Lumpi, in his house.One of the police officers ______________(tell) the dog to find the man , he__________(hide) behind some bushes !

Please help , I am not sure for some sentence so I have typed the whole text to make it more easy to understand .

Your answer to #3 is completely wrong. Since this is an action before another action in the past, past perfect form of the verb is needed.

Police were going (not was going). The word "police" is plural. Sentence 3 is fine.

Several can be either simple past or past perfect. I suggest that past perfect is a better choice because one of its functions is to emphasize the order of events:

I see no particular connection between that adverb and past perfect, Iman, though of course they could occur together.
