Past tense or past particple?

Hi, thx for reading my questions.

Just wanna know which one is correct...it is a bit confusing:

I had worked for this company for 10 years.

I worked for this company for 10 years.

I thought that the first one would be correct because the 10 years period was from one point to another. But a native speaker told me that the second sentence would be more correct....can somebody pls tell me why?

I had performed a number of roles in this company for the last 10 years.

I performed a number of roles in this company for the last 10 years.

which one is right?
