Past tense: might have/ could comparison

Hello,

There is a sentence that has been bothering me for some time now:
There was nothing he might have done to prevent it vs. There was nothing he could have done to prevent it.
So, which of the two is correct, and if both are, what are their respective uses?
Thanks a ton!

Both are correct. It is just personal choice, or what is used more in the region where you live. My choice is "could."

Thank you for your response. If the sentence before it is in the past tense, would the following be correct, too?
The weather was horrible. There was nothing he could do to prevent it.
Or does the "could", in this case, have to be followed by "have done"?
