Past tense indicating future time

could you please give me an example of the usage of the simple past tense indicating future time in English? I've got two but am not sure which one is correct or neither.
1 he said he would leave for tomorrow.
2 he would leave for tomorrow.
is there any difference between the two woulds in question in relation to time reference?
could you give me one more exmaple?
thank you

would makes a modal construction, not a simple past.

The conditions which have to apply in order to do what you're asking are seldom found in the situational context. I think it would have to be in the reported speech of a scheduled event.
