Past tense and present tense(confused)

0 very sorry to all, i know tis will be a very silly question, since i dont understand, so i must ask here. sorry for those who feel this stupid02br
00i can not differentiate between when to u present tense and past tense sometimes.02br
00For example,02br
001. I got my result just now02br
002. I realized that i have missed the class.02br
003 .I understand what u mean. 02br
00We usually say "I (understand) what u mean" when we have understood something transmitted by someone. Since we have understood, then why we can not say " I (understood) what u mean" [we have understood already what?02br
00For case 1 and 2, after have gotten the result and realized something, then we use past tense for it.02br
00Why case 1 and case 2 have the same situation, but different in sentence grammar?? 0-

0 Hi02br 00in the first, there is "just now", and "just" is used with the past or the present perfect. So you say "I just saw my result. I just finished.

00I understand (= now) what you mean (= what you want to tell me now).02br
00I understood (= at some moment in the past)

0Regarding 'understand', if I'm not mistaken, it's a state verb. That means you're still in the state of 'understand'. Therefore, you should use the present tense unless you're referring to a past incident and your state of 'understand' in the past. Just my thought.0-

00 Case 1 and 2 use the tense with same function, but case 3 does not , how to explain it? If case 3 is the correct sentense, then case 1 should be i am mistaken by ???. and case 2 should be i am interested by???. if case 1 and case2 are the correct sentence then case 3 should

0As far as tense is concerned, all of them use the same tense, the present.0-

0 Well, 01i00mistaken02i00 and01i00 interested02i00 are used as adjectives in your examples, while 01i00distracted02i00 is a past participle that is part of a passive structure, so it's a different structure. However, you could use01i00 distracted02i00 as an adjective too, so you could also say 01i

Hi In the above reply posted by jaylhw1 on Mon. apr.21 2008 you said the use of "I am mistaken" is the same structure as " I am worried" Could you please explain to me which structure that may be? I can not come clear with the use of "I am" coupled with a verb in the past tense such as I am interested. Please help!

some of the verb can be adjective, when ed is applied.... interest itself can be a verb or noun, it can be adjective though...... after ed is applied.. it is same with i am beautiful....

Verb and subject must match in number and tense.

I understood (past tense) what you meant (past tense).

I understand (present tense) what you mean (present tense)

Active sentences also have a subject verb then object (the subject acts upon the object)

The dog jumped over the fence.

Passive sentences have object verb subject.

The fence was jumped over b
