past tense

I saw him do it, or I saw him doing it?

I'm under the impression that you say "I saw him doing it" when "him" was doing something for a continuous period of time.

Do you then say "I saw him do it" if he did something momentarily?

If you see someone do something, you see the whole complete situation. It is not necessarily a momentary action. If you see someone doing something, you see the situation in process.
