Past Tense

Please tell me which of these two sentences is grammatically correct.

They should have told us that the practice was postponed or They should have told us that the practice had been postoponed. I already know that the practice was postoponed, but I intend to convey this info to a friend of mine.

Thank you in advance for answering my question.
