Past tense

Hi, would you please tell me what is the right past tense of the following sentense?

  • I do say so myself.
Is it "I did said so myself" or "I did say so myself" ?

Thank you in advance.

HI, You can't use " I did said t o myself", I would use: "I said it to myself". What do you want to say, I guess I don't understand what you want to express Anyway, hope I could help Alex

Hi,

The form with 'did' is used in negative statements (I did not say so myself) and in questions (Did I say so myself?).

It can also be used to provide emphasis. eg

Tom: You didn't say so yourself!. You didn't! You didn't!

Mary: I did! I did! I did say so myself!

Best wishes, Clive

I think your confusion lies in the modal / helping word usage in relation to the verb form.

If you can remember this, it will help eliminate some of this kind of problem.

All verbs must stay in their base form immediately after a model or helping verb. i.e.

We must stay to finish the project.

She may prefer Italian over Chinese.
