past tense

What exactly is the difference between 'I used to do sth" and "I did sth"? I mean, I often hear that people use the past simple tense to talk about repetetive actions, e.g. "I sold computers". Can I use "I sold computers", "I used to sell computers" and "I'd sell computers" in the same meaning?
thanks in advance

Although I'm learning English myself I also prefer to use "used to". But it's really confusing. There's no difference at all between them?

In my opinion, there should be a difference among them, but too many people use them interchangeably to make any strong statement.
