1. Ahmed didn't give me the money for transport,so I had to take a lift.
2. Ahmed hadn't given me the money for transport,so I had to take a lift.
or Because Ahmed hadn't given me the money for transport,I had to take a lift
Are both grammatical? If yes, which is suitable in this kind of situation?

CalifJimI'm not comfortable with 'take a lift', however. Are you referring to hitchhiking? Or did you have to get a lift from a friend? Or ask a friend for a lift?
