Past simple vs Present perfect

Hello everyone,

Could you please help me with the following sentence that one of my students wrote:

He went many times to Germany.

I would have used He has been many times to Germany. In the text, it it then written that he is going next year too. The action is not finished and as a result I would assume that the past simple is wrong.

What do you reckon ? Thanks for your help.

Yes, use the Present Perfect, to indicate that the past actions have particular relevance to the present situation. Use the Simple Past if there is no present relevance. For example.
