Past simple vs present perfect?

Hi! everyone.

Could you tell me what the difference in meaning is between the following sentences?

A: Have your parents asked about it since that night?

B: Did your parents ask about it after that night?

Are "since" and "after" interchangeable in the first sentence?

Thanks
