Past simple - present perfect

which tense is better here? consider that one of these sisters is still attending that school, taking her a-levels this year, to be exact, the event is not finished.

I go to this school because all my sisters were here too and because they liked it.
I go to this school because all my sisters have been here too and because they (have) liked it.
