Past simple past perfect simple

Hi!

Past perfect simple is used to describe something happened before something else (which is described by using Past Simple).

Will I have to use Past Perfect simple if there is a date associated at the event happened before?

For example:

a) I hadn't got time because the deadline was the 4th of April and I came back fron London on the 2nd

b) I hadn't got time because the deadline was the 4th of April and I HAD COME back fron London on the 2nd

Which is correct?
