Have you seen my phone? I've put it somewhere/ I put it somewhere, but now I don't remember where.

- But I'd say the the more common is the Simple Past tense when you are talking about a simple event in the past.

Are both correct? Yes. But I'd say the the more common is the Simple Past tense when you are talking about a simple event in the past.
