I'd like to know which of these two versions are correct:

Mrs. Smith enjoyed the party, but at the end of the evening, she was realizing that she had lost the precious necklace that she had been wearing.
or
Mrs. Smith enjoyed the party, but at the end of the evening, she realized that she had lost the precious necklace that she had been wearing.
