Past simple of MUSTN'T

We use 'to have to' instead of 'must' for the missing forms:

for example for the past simple ('had to'); we can't use

'don't have to' instead of 'mustn't' as they have a different

meaning. So: what can we use for the past simple of 'mustn't'?

Thank you.

slocawber what can we use for the past simple of 'mustn't'? I think we could use 'couldn't' or 'not allowed to' there. For example: You mustn't touch anything in this house without their permission.

couldn't or wasn't/weren't allowed to, as suggested above, are fine, as is was/were forbidden to.
