Past simple and Present simple in the same sentence

Question: Which sentence is correct?


I'm a Filipino, but in the past, __________________________.



A: I didn't appreciate that I am a Filipino.

B: I didn't appreciate that I was a Filipino.

B. was Match the tense with "didn't (appreciate)". Even though you are still a Filipino, of course, you still use 'was' because your lack of appreciation was in the past.
