Past Simple

Americans! I'd like to ask you a question. In your version of English it's possible to use the Past Simple instead of the Present Perfect, isn't it? For example

- I just saw him, I didn't finish my homework yet, I recently bought a club, I received a new watch

These sentences would be treated like mistakes in the UK, wouldn't they?
