past progressive when and while

Hi everybody,
My daughter got this sentence in a test:
Adam met his uncle when he ............ (come) into his house.
She filled it in like this: Adam met his uncle when he came into his house. According to the rule that says that after when we use past simple and after while we use past progressive.
The teacher marked it as wrong and said that it should be: Adam met his uncle when he was coming into his house.
Another sentence she marked as wrong is this: As Dan was walking home, he saw his sister and they went home together.
Are these sentences really wrong?
