Past perfect + time expression

Can we use past perfect with time expressions like yesterday, last year, last month, 4 days ago?

So I am basicly asking if these sentences are correct.
I had help many people yesterday/last year/last month/4 days ago.

I am writing this letter because I felt very sorry for being so impulsive after I had bought the two of you in a pet shop last week.

What about this sentence? Is the use of past perfect justified in this sentence? Or would past simple be more appropriate in this sentence?

As 'after' makes the sequence of events clear, the past simple is adequate, but the past perfect is fine.

I am not sure how you managed to buy two of me in a pet shop. Do tell.
