Past perfect tense

Here are two sentences. I'd like an opinion on whether they're grammatically correct.

1. I never received a warning about any prior issue.

2. I never received a good explanation about calibration requirements before the disciplinary action.

Would I need to use "I had never received. . ." for these sentences or are they fine as is?

Thanks.
