past perfect tense
'Well remember that paper I had published last year on sediment flow rate?'
This is what Ross says in friends,I thought it should be past tense since there is specific time mentioned in the sentence.Also,I thought pass perfect is used to say that one action happened before another action happened in the past.How come past perfect is used here since there is only one action that has taken place?
