Past perfect simple VS Past pefect continuous

Hello fellow English enthusiasts,

I could really use some guidance on this question as I am really struggling with this part of my assignment.

I need to analyse two verb phrases: 1. He'd finished....&....2. He'd been using

I need to analyse them in terms of MEANING, FORM, and PRONUNCIATION and include an analysis of their 'question' and 'negative' forms.

I also need to describe how I would convey and check meaning of these two examples.

I am truly at a loss! Though I am a native English speaker, this question reads like a completely foreign language to me.

Thanks to anyone that can lend a hand,
Jason Chester
