Past Perfect / Past

Are these correct? If not, why? What do they mean?
1. If I knew I was going to end up here, I would have asked for a lot more. (I saw this one in the movie. What does it mean compared to #2?)
2. If I had known I was going to end up here, I would have asked for a lot more.

(There's no "have" because of rule of grammar that is If + subject + v2 + ........ , subject + would + v1 +..............)

2. It is correct.

Different:
number1 used for something probably happens or you can imagine.
number2 It's just imagine and it can't happen anyway

In the first, the past substitutes for the more common past perfect.
Such substitutions are not that rare. Both sentences have the exact same meaning.
