Past perfect or simple with "for a week"

I had an exam today. It wasn't that hard. I only studied/ had only studied for a week.

Are both correct, and if so, what's the difference?

Top answer

I think they are both correct, because the studying is in the past. The past perfect emphasizes that you had studied for a week before the exam.
