Past perfect or simple past,or both in this situation?

Thanks for coming in. In this situation, I am talking about a feature that was available in all the previous versions of the software but not in the latest one. So which one should I use, past perfect or simple past? Or both are acceptable?

1. As far as I know, there had always been having the selection of 200ms until the 2009 version; and this makes me very disappointed and upset.

2. As far as I know, the selection of 200ms was always included until the 2009 version; and this makes me very disappointed and upset.

PS. I am focusing on the 2009 which is the latest version. And the selection of 200ms is still available in the old versions just not in the 2009 one.

Thanks in advance!

Would you mind telling me why the original one is unacceptable? I am sorry but I don't really understand.
