Past perfect or past tense

I need help in finding which of the two tenses-past perfect or past-is applicable in the second sentence below:

Chong has 17 years of industry experience with Exxon Chemical. He (had worked or worked) for seven years in sales with Aberdeen, Scotland, which involved lot of offshore work, and eight years with OFC marketing in UK and North America.

Thanks!

Past perfect can be used only when you have an action which precedes another action in the past.
Not here.

So, it's worked not had worked. I didn't know Aberdeen was a place and not a company.

A LOT of thanks to both of you.
