past perfect (had + p.p)
In the next passage, the underlined sentence is correct? (Especially, had made) Can I use past tense like " When the building fell down, it made a triangle shape and saved 14 students' lives"
And are there any awkward sentences or wards in the passage?

In 1988, a strong earthquake hit Armenia badly. After the earthquake, a farther rushed to his son's school. He was worried about his son who was studying at school.
When he got there, he found the school building flat as a pancake. It looked hopeless but he remembered the promise he had given to his son: " No matter what happens, I'll always be there for you!"
As he was digging, other parents arrived and cried out they gave up hope. They didn't help the father. They just tried to stop him. After 38 hours of digging, the father heard his son's voice.
The son believed in his father, so the son told the other kids not to worry. He was sure that his father would save him. When falling down, the school building had made a triangle shape and saved 14 students' lives. They were tired but they waited without losing hope. Finally the father saved his son and the other 13 students.

By pure luck, when falling down, the school building had taken a triangle (triangular) shape, (a fact/something) which saved 14 students' lives.
