Past perfect continuous tense
He had been doing homework since morning when his mother called yesterday.
Although it is a totally correct sentence with sound grammar, I am wondering if the context is abit of mismatch.
I dont think the native speakers would come out with such a sentence.
As there are clearer ways to express this
Eg
1. He had been doing his homework since morning. Hence he looked tired when his mother called.
2. When his mother called yesterday, he was doing his homework.
Any native speakers to share your view on this?

Yesterday, h e had been doing homework since 7 am in the morning when his mother called. It just needs some rearranging and a more exact time reference.

It is not wrong. My only problem with it is that "yesterday" comes as a surprise. I would expect us to already know you're talking about yesterday and could therefore make it "He had been doing homework since morning when his mother called."
