Past perfect confuses me, please help

Could any of you please help in this little grammer problem of mine?

I just quite don't really like to use past perfect because i just can't use it properly? Please give me a clue what's the difference between did and have done or was doing and have been doing?

Or actually what refers to what in these sentences i mean like in time or else : What excercises have you been doing / What excercises have you done / What excercises did you do/ What excercises were you doing

Thanks for any help

  • - did | did you do >> simple past - have done >> present perfect - was doing | were doing >> past continuous - have been doing >> present perfect continuous.
