Are both sentences correct, and if so, does one sound more authentic? A: A few hours earlier, there HAD BEEN a news report about a prisoner who HAD ESCAPED from the penitentiary.
B: A few hours earlier, there HAD BEEN a news report about a prisoner who ESCAPED from the penitentiary.
