Check that lyrics

I woke up this morning with the blues
My baby left me a note

Is it correct grammatically because my baby left a note then I woke up and found the note. I think the author should have used past perfect.
My baby had left a note or I found the note my baby had left

What do you think ?

I think the sequence of events is pretty clear there, so I don't think the past perfect is required grammatically.
