What is better to say ?

I did not go to school because I had had an headache or I did not go to school because I had an headache
I think the first one is better because first I had an headache and the consequence is I did not go to school
In the second sentence both actions take place at the same time and the action of having an headache is not finished

Am I right?

Anonymous I did not go to school because I had an headache This one is better; the first sentence tells us that the headache was finished before you decided not to go to school. Anonymous In the second sentence both actions take place at the same time and the action of having an headache is not finished That's right: a good reason to stay home.
