Past perfect

Hi,

It was okay, considering the number of people he had fought with until then. (in past perfect, is 'until then' okay?)

b) Can we say: it was ruined by the people themselves.

c) He gave Mary a present all the while hoping that his friend too would give her a present and thus make things right. (should it be 'make' as part of 'his friend' clause or 'made' as part of the original clause? I am assuming it is the former.)

Regards,

All correct. parallel structure: would give and [would] make (bare infinitives, or base form) As an aside, I think your sentence c) could profit by the addition of a couple of commas.
