Past perfect

a) He had ordered the children to stay silent until the carpenter finished his job.
THe first half is in past perfect, so I am wondering whether 'could finish' is correct here instead of 'finished.'

b) Again, past perfect. They came only after enough damage had been done. Will 'had been done' be right since one is describing what happened in the past?

c) Can one use 'nimiety' the way we use surplus? Nimiety of goods etc. Is it an archaic word?

d) While describing some object, can we say: it is blue of hue. I know it is 'blue in color' but when it comes to hue, which preposition would be right - of or in?
