Past participle

Having discovered by Europeans in 1778, the Hawaiian Islands represent some of the most recently colonized areas of the globe

This is the original sentence. Why, did we use "having discovered" instead of "discovered"

We do not need to emphasize that the discovery wast first action since the second part has simple present tense

Normally we use past participle with past tense to emphasize which action is first

I'd say the use of perfect form is wrong in that context since there is a specific time (in 1778).

It would be like:

The Hawaiian Islands, which have been discovered by Europeans in 1778, represent some of the most recently colonized areas of the globe.

So I'd use the general passive form of the participle:

Discovered by Europeans in 1778, the Hawaiian Island
