Past Participle

Hi guys, I've been reviewing some grammar, and I was wondering if the past participle can be used as an adverb.

For example,
'I returend to my work confused.'

Or

'Confused, I returned to my work.'

Is the past participle being used as an adverb?

Appreciate the help!

I can't see "confused" as a past participle in your examples. It's an adjective meaning

It is only 'I' that is 'confused', not the return to work.
