Past participle

I eat a slice of bread every morning ( simple present tense)
I ate a slice of bread yesterday morning (simple past tense)
I am eating a slice of bread ( present participle)
I have eaten a slice of bread ( past participle)

My question is for past participle, why is it not " I had eaten a slice of bread " ?

Hi 'Had' would be used there if your action was interrupted or it lead on to something else that also happened in the past - I started breakfast and had eaten a slice of bread, when my brother phoned - I felt ill at midday, I'm not sure why - I had eaten a slice of bread earlier Dave
