Past or present tense

Hello,

Let's say we mix sentences like this:

Just as I passed the exam today, so would (will) Jack tomorrow.

I chose love over duty. So would (will) many others, I am sure.

Some people say since the first clause/sentence is past tense, the second clause/sentence should also be past tense (would). Others say 'will' is acceptable if you want emphasis.

Please give me an idea on this, thanks.
