past or present?

Which would you choose, "came" or "comes?" Kiwifruit originally comes/came from north-central and eastern China.

I know that when we talk about our country of origin, we say, "I come from Taiwan." But does the same apply to this particular example?

Thank you very much.
Does the same apply in the case where I don't write "originally?"

No. In that case, use "comes from."

Hi. It just hit me that when I want to talk about my birthplace, I'll say, "I am originally from -----." So I wonder why there is a difference in the use of the tense. Could anyone explain to me why that is so?
