Past or Present?

Hi Folks,

I just read this sentence on the internet and wondered if it should be in the past tense. The sentence is...

' Coffee sales almost triple over the past year, according to current statistics.'

Shouldn't the word - triple - read as 'tripled'?

I know if you say it quickly as is, it doesn't sound wrong, so perhaps my question is why are both sentences correct?

OR are they?

Thanks,

Thanks CJ.

I thought that was the case. I asked just in case there was something I've missed.

Emotion: phew
