Thanks Avangi ...could you tell me how to frame the same sentence using "last" instead of "past"...is such a usage allowed in English?

Also wanted to add:
Could you tell me how to frame it if the number of years involved is more- say, 2 or 3?

I want to also say that both the questions are not directed only to Avangi, but to anyone with an answer:)

The expression "last year" would meet some of your requirements.
What were you doing last year?
How did you make a living last year?
How have you supported yourself during the last three years?

Where have you been for the last three years?

Where were you for the last three years? (casual)

Thanks a lot, Avangi
