Past Form for a Future Event

Dear teachers and friends,

In the following sentence, why is the verb "discuss" in the past form when the event that the speaker is talking about has not happened yet?

"Please let us know if you need any help. In case you can't make the meeting tonight, I'll let you know what we discussed".

Thank you very much.
