Past form

Does "forego" have a past form? Or does it always need another verb to show the past? Which ones are correct? I know the first one is but how about the other 2? Thanks!

He had to forego his plans of studying abroad.

He forewent his plans......

He foregoed his plans....

Phillip I do not think that is correct. I believe that in this case it would be

He forewent his plans

Forewent is the past tense and foregone is the past participle of the word forego which means to precede as in time or place. (ps. i looked it up)

Yes, we know that, Anon. It is just that the simple past is seldom used now, so that 'has foregone', as Philip makes clear, is more usual.

past:- Forewent

Past participle:-Foregone
