Past continuous vs past perfect

Hi
Which tense is more appropriate to use?
I went to the doctor's yesterday.I (had felt, was feeling) ill the night before.

Both work. 'was feeling' gives emphasis to the duration (experience) of the illness. 'had felt' omits the sense of duration, and instead emphasises the pastness of it.
