Past continuous- past simple

Hello !

I found this sentence in a grammar book:

"I wasn't feeling well that day, so I didn't go out with the others."

I was wondering if I can use the past simple in this sentence, as well. So, is the next sentence correct?

"I didn't feel well that day, so I didn't go out with the others."
