Passive vs active voice
He was said to have told them that he believed there was no chance of winning.
He told them that he believed there was no chance of winning.
Is my changing of the passive-voice sentence into the active-voice one correct?

Not really ... I mean, you've created a valid sentence, but rather than changing the passive element to active you have simply removed it.
