Passive vs actice voice

I am writing an essay and trying to make a point about active and pastive voice.

Can you please state what vioce these are in and convert them to the opposite.

1) When the right moment came he jumped.

2) Paul never went up Cordelia street without a shudder of loathing.

3) You must write to your friend.

Thank you for any help.

Hi Anon Your sentences all use the active voice. Nothing in sentence 1 can be converted directly to passive since the neither verb has an object in the acitve sentence. Sentence 2 does not convert naturally to a passive sentence.

  • You can force the passive, but it will sound ridiculous.
  • Sentence 3 could be converted to this: Your friend must be written to.
