passive voice

I have written a book with the intention of challenging the reader, I want the reader to feel he is in a debate - conversation with me. I make statements and suggest potential responses. I ask many questions in a way that I hope will cause the reader to stop reading, think about the subject and then respond in his thinking process. MS Word has driven me crazy with "passive voice" Does it really matter when you are wanting to communicate more than impress with writing skills. Do people really prefer the formal or the conversational style of writing?
